Summer 2020: Horizons at Home

In response to COVID-19, all the Horizons Greater Boston programs pivoted to provide a virtual summer experience to students. Horizons programs pivoted to provide a virtual summer experience to students. For five weeks, Horizons at Home provided at-home instruction, combining both synchronous and asynchronous learning; allowing opportunities for students to work at their own pace. Daily, students received over 1.5 hours of academic programming, divided evenly between math and literacy. Afternoons were dedicated to synchronous and asynchronous enrichment opportunities, ranging from STEAM projects, music, art, yoga and physical exercise. To make online learning accessible, Horizons distributed STEAM activities, art supplies, books and learning materials at three different times over the summer. We had weekly virtual field trips to the New England Aquarium, the MET and the world’s largest cave.
